What Does Narrow Band UVB Phototherapy Treat?
Narrowband UVB phototherapy is a great option for treating a variety of skincare conditions, but it doesn’t stop there. It’s also great at addressing cosmetic concerns. Here are just a few of the conditions we treat at our Los Angeles clinics:
- Atopic Dermatitis
- Psoriasis
- Vitiligo
- Early-stage cutaneous t-cell lymphoma
As research continues, the uses for narrowband UVB phototherapy may be extended even further. Our highly professional dermatology team stays up-to-date on these research breakthroughs. We’ll let you know if this is the best treatment for your unique circumstances.
How Does a Narrowband UVB Phototherapy Work?
Narrowband UVB lamps emit wavelengths between 311-313 nanometers. As the rays penetrate bare skin, they slow the growth of affected skin cells and decrease inflammation. This specific wavelength from 311-313 nanometers is the sweetspot for the best efficacy with minimal side effects.
Before, After, and During Treatment
Before The Treatment
During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your needs and determine if narrowband UVB phototherapy will provide the results you desire. Our award-winning team will also assess your skin type to determine the best wavelength of light to use for you. Some skin types burn or tan easier than others. Prior to your treatment, you’ll want to avoid the sun as much as possible. Too much sun could significantly increase your risk of burning with this treatment.
During The Treatment
Because of the bright light, you’ll be given protective glasses to wear. It’s also very likely that you’ll have an ointment applied prior to the process.
Most patients require multiple treatments with narrowband UVB phototherapy, often up to 2 to 5 visits per week. The number of visits will ultimately depend on the type of skin problem, the severity, and your response.
After The Treatment
Most patients who receive narrowband UVB phototherapy have minimal to no side effects. The most common side effect is redness.
