- Papulopustular (Acne) Rosacea

Characterized by the flushing, visible blood cells, and facial redness, Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea is the most common of the four. The thickened skin on the nose is what makes this type rosacea unique. It usually presents itself after another type of rosacea occurs. There is also Ocular Rosacea. This subtype of the condition has everything to do with the eye area and all symptoms will center around here.

### #1 Topical Drugs

Creams and gels that include azelaic acid, like Metrogel, are great for controlling the pimples common with mild rosacea. It can take 2-6 weeks to see noticeable improvements. Doctors may prescribe Brimonidine or oxymetazoline to reduce redness. You can see results as soon as 12 hours. In order to maintain improvements apply the cream regularly to the affected areas.

### #2 Oral Acne Drugs

If you have severe rosacea and are not responding to topical drugs, then you may be prescribed isotretinoin ([Accutane](https://bhskin.com/medical/accutane/)). This powerful acne drug can clear up acne-like lesions by preventing the production of oil by the sebaceous glands.

### #3 Oral Antibiotics

Prescription medications like Doxycycline could be prescribed to manage the pimples and bumps associated with moderate to severe rosacea. Oral antibiotics typically show faster results than topical ones.

### #4 Laser Therapies/Light-Based Therapies

[Intense Pulsed Light Therapy](https://bhskin.com/laser/ipl/) is a gentle and long-lasting solution that reduces unevenly toned areas of the skin, redness, and pimples caused by rosacea. The [VBeam Laser](https://bhskin.com/laser/vbeam/) penetrates visible blood vessels as a way to reduce redness and inflammation.
