## How Does a Narrowband UVB Phototherapy Work?

Narrowband UVB lamps emit wavelengths between 311-313 nanometers, which is the specific range considered most effective. As the rays penetrate bare skin, they slow the growth of affected skin cells and decrease inflammation. This narrow band UVB wavelength is the sweet spot for the best efficacy with minimal side effects.

## Four Benefits of Narrowband UVB Phototherapy

### #1 Results that Last

Patients that visit our LA clinics often over time notice that their results last 6 months or more. Results last longer for those that properly maintain their skin by using sunscreen, staying hydrated, and keeping skin moisturized.

Patients that visit our LA clinics for narrowband UVB therapy achieve longer-lasting and more thorough clearance. This highly effective clearance can be maintained with routine maintenance visits.

### #2 Quick and Convenient Treatment Sessions

UVB narrowband phototherapy requires fewer treatments per week than other light therapies. In addition, the sessions are quick. You could be in and out within 20 minutes.

Each treatment is quick. Sessions start at 2-3 times per week and are reduced as clearance is achieved.

### #3 You’ll Be Recovered in No Time

If you don’t have a lot of time to waste, you’ll appreciate this treatment. Post-treatment, you should only have minor discomfort. Therefore, you should be able to return to work and/or resume your normal everyday activities.

## Before, After, and During Treatment

### Before The Treatment

During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your needs and determine if narrowband UVB phototherapy treatment will provide the results you desire. Our award-winning team will also assess your skin type to determine the best wavelength of light to use for you. Some skin types burn or tan easier than others. Prior to your treatment, you’ll want to avoid the sun as much as possible. Too much sun could significantly increase your risk of burning with this treatment.

### During The Treatment

Because of the bright light, you’ll be given protective glasses to wear. It’s also very likely that you’ll have an ointment applied prior to the process.

Most patients require multiple treatments with UVB narrow band light therapy, often up to 2 to 5 visits per week. The number of visits will ultimately depend on the type of skin problem, the severity, and your response.

### After The Treatment

Most patients who receive narrowband UVB therapy have minimal to no side effects. The most common side effect is redness.
