What is Botox?
Botox is a cosmetic treatment for dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles made by muscle movement) and has been the #1 cosmetic treatment for anti-aging for the last 15 years. Botox is the trade name by Allergan for onabotulinum toxin A, a toxin that works at the neuromuscular junction to inhibit activation and movement of muscle fibers. When injected into the belly of the superficial muscles of the face or neck, localized muscle paralysis occurs and the absence of muscle movement results in the ability to make the wrinkles that are being targeted.
Where is Botox Used?
Botox is primarily used for the muscles in the upper half of the face, but has been widely used in other areas to get rid of wrinkles in numerous places.
- Forehead “stress lines”
- Glabella “eleven lines” (between eyebrows)
- Periorbital areas “crows feet”
- Chin (for “orange peel” skin appearance)
- Jawline (“Nefertiti lift”)

- Nose “bunny lines”

Many of the treatment areas above are considered to be “advanced treatment” areas and must be done by a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
