Dermal Fillers

Example of dermal fillers treatment.

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Dermal fillers can be used for a variety of cosmetic purposes, with a specific substance for each. Patients use dermal fillers to:

  • Add plumpness to thinning lips
  • Decrease/remove shadow or wrinkle under the eyes caused by the lower eyelid
  • Enhance and fill shallow areas of the face
  • Fill in and soften static wrinkles, such as in the lower part of the face
  • Fill in and soften the look of indented scars

The Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a fantastic and preferred procedure used to restore the fullness of your skin. Our patients love their ability to reduce facial folds and wrinkles, but a few other reasons they prefer dermal fillers that we administer in Glendale and Encino include:

#1 Fast Application

The process of injecting dermal fillers usually takes about 30 minutes or less. That means there is no need for a long day at the doctor’s office! This simple procedure offers visible results right away.

#2 Long-lasting Effects

These fine line fillers are preferred thanks to their ability to restore volume. This leads to a natural, more youthful appearance. And the best part is that results of dermal fillers can last anywhere between 4 months to a year. How long it lasts depends on the product used and your particular treatment.

#3 Good Safety Track

Dermal fillers are one of the safest minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to date. Our board-certified dermatologists only work with FDA approved, brand name fillers. This reduces risk and leads to the best results.

#4 Surgery Alternative

Dermal fillers are a great brief procedure to enhance skin and add a little youthful volume. This procedure is great for patients who are not looking for a more serious procedure like a facelift.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

There are many different types of fillers and each one works better for certain areas of concern. For instance, hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already found in our body, is responsible for adding plumpness to the skin. It does this by binding to water and boosting those areas where we lack collagen and elastin.

Some of the substances used for fillers can include polylactic acid, which encourages the skin to produce collagen. The specific dermal filler used for you is based on your unique needs. A BHSkin Dermatology expert will be able to determine what the best dermal filler is for you during a consultation in Encino.

What To Expect: Before, During, and After

Before the Dermal Filler Treatment

Before you get dermal fillers, your board-certified dermatologist will assess your areas of concern. They’ll review your medical history and determine if dermal fillers are the right treatment for you. From there, we’ll create a customized treatment plan to get you on the road to radiant skin.

During The Treatment

At your treatment session, a BHSkin Dermatology expert will clean all areas of concern. Local anesthesia is used in some cases but not all. Most dermal filler injections contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort, but the majority of patients say the injection itself feels like a pinch. The filler is then injected precisely beneath the skin, and within minutes, you’ll see visible results.

After The Treatment

Patients may notice some side effects following the treatment such as redness, swelling, bruising, skin rash and itching. Most people can go back to their normal activities immediately following treatment. We recommend that patients use sunscreen daily after the procedure to aid in the preservation of the filler. Your dermal filler dermatologist at our offices in Glendale and Encino may have other recommendations based on your care plan.
