Which Filler is Best For Me?
With so many choices for your dermal filler, which one of these should you choose: Restylane, Perlane, Juvéderm, Belotero, or Radiesse? Here’s a quick little guide to tell you the differences between these fillers.
What is a Filler?
A dermal filler is injectable material which is injected underneath the skin or tissue to minimize to diminish lines or grooves caused over time. All 4 products are primarily designed to treat the Nasolabial Folds (the parenthesis or laugh lines around the mouth) but have been used to enhance or correct other areas such as the eyebrow lines, chin lines, marionette lines, and even periorbital lines. These fillers can also be used to replace volume loss in the lips, cheeks, nose, and neck area.
Are all Fillers the Same?
The short answer is no. Radiesse is a paste-like material while Restylane, Perlane, Belotero, and Juvéderm are gels. These gels vary in consistency making each one unique and probably more desirable for treatment of certain areas.
Which Filler Should I Choose?
The choice of filler depends on the degree of filling response you need. Some of the choices are better for deeper grooves, folds, and volume loss areas, while others are better for more superficial and shallow creases. Here is a quick comparison guide:
Juvederm Ultra – superficial and mid depth wrinkles and creases; can be used anywhere, especially good for lips
Belotero – superficial and mid depth wrinkles and creases; slightly more robust than Restylane and Juvederm Ultra; can be used anywhere
Perlane – mid to deeper wrinkles and grooves; volume loss areas; great for deeper nasolabial folds, lips, marionette lines
Juvederm Ultra Plus – mid to deeper wrinkles and grooves; volume loss areas; great for deeper nasolabial folds, lips, marionette lines
Radiesse – mid to deep wrinkles and grooves; great for deep nasolabial folds and filling in cheeks and volume loss areas. Do NOT use around eyes or in lips
