Non Acne Causing Makeup

Avene Non-Comedogenic Makeup Compact

For those people who suffer from blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, nodules, and cysts, wearing acne makeup may feel like a necessity, but may actually be doing much more harm than good. Makeup may function like any other minute foreign object on the surface of the skin and proceed to occlude pores and lead to acne. That still doesn’t mean you can’t find makeup that can work well for you.

Best Makeup for Acne

Here are a common questions and a couple suggestions for you:

What does non-comedogenic mean?

Non-comedogenic means that the ingredients in the makeup or topical preparation have been shown to NOT occlude pores and promote acne.

Is mineral makeup better for my skin?

The short answer is usually yes. Mineral makeup is usually non-comedogenic, but you must confirm this by reading the label carefully or by asking the makeup representative to ensure that their makeup truly is non-comedogenic.

Should I look for oil free make-up?

In general, yes. However, it is known that companies may place other synthetic materials in their makeup than can cause acne just as easily. It is better to look for non-comedogenic on the label rather than relying on the term “oil free”.

What is the worst makeup for acne prone skin?

My answer is MAC. In my practice, I have seen the worst acne reactions to this makeup above all others.

What is the best makeup for my acne prone skin?

My strongest recommendations are Neutrogena, Clinique, Avene, Lancome, and Bare Escentuals.

Should my makeup have SPF?

Yes, if possible. Try to find one with an SPF 30 or higher.

Hope these tips help you find the best makeup for acne prone skin, feel free to comment!
